 For the past 47 years, Joseph Pelosi has directed the Lafayette Band. He started teaching in the North Kingstown School System in the fall of 1959. During his 39 years as an educator, Joe taught all levels of instrumental music – 5th.grade, middle & high school.
Joe is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor and Master of Music Education degree. He served as president of RIMEA (Rhode Island Music Educators Association) and the RI Chapter of the International Association of Jazz Educators. He established the first RIMEA Jazz Festival which was hosted by NKHS for 25 years.
Joe has received numerous awards for excellence in music education and his symphonic bands and jazz ensembles have consistently been rated as among the finest in Rhode Island and New England. Recently, the North Kingstown School Department dedicated the band room at the new high school as the Joseph Pelosi Band Room.
Joe is a professional trumpet player and for many years a member of the Providence Federation of Musicians.
